Generative AI – What to do?
17. November 2023
A key result of this year’s OeAWI annual conference was the need for more opportunities for exchange between member organizations on topics relating to scientific integrity. We are, therefore, pleased to announce the start of our new event series: Research Integrity:Aktuell (RIA)! Events in this series will take place four times per year and provide brief inputs by experts on current topics related to scientific integrity, followed by discussion.
The event series kicked off on November 16th with an input by OEAWI managing director Sabine Chai on “Artificial Intelligence and scientific integrity”. Some of the issues discussed were authorship and copyright, data protection, and the dangers of discrimination through AI. The following discussion centered around the evaluation of research achievements that involved assistance of AI, as well as how to choose the appropriate AI tools for one´s research questions and how to safely use said tools. The lively discussion showed how important the current developments related to artificial intelligence are for research and integrity, and suggested a need for more exchange.
